Although Creative is known mainly as a manufacturer of audio systems as well as portable music and media players, they also got involved in the area of webcams, first with the WebCam Live! range and then with the Live! Cam range, which includes such models as the Live!Cam Optia, Live!Cam Video or Live!Cam Vista.
Following the success of the Live!Cam Optia model, the manufacturers have decided to “pimp it up” a bit and launched, in April 2007, the Live!Cam Optia AF, a device that takes the qualities of its predecessor to the next level while adding a very interesting autofocus feature.
The first thing worth mentioning about the Live!Cam Optia AF is that it sports a 2-megapixel sensor with autofocus system, a huge improvement over the past model's 1.3 Megapixel software manual focus version. The new and improved model is capable of delivering 8 Megapixel, 3200x2400 still images (software enhanced, obviously), compared to the Live!Cam Optia's 1280x960 resolution, as well as attain a maximum video resolution of 1600 x 1200, a huge leap over the 640x480 capabilities of the old Optia.
Like almost all the webcams in the Live! Cam series, the Optia AF is completely plug-and-play (USB Video Class1), which means that it runs right out of the box, without forcing the user to install any drivers whatsoever, and also includes the special Live! Audio technology developed by Creative, courtesy of which the user can enjoy crisp very good quality sound.
Another great thing about the Live!Cam Optia AF is its versatility, since the webcam sports a multi-axis swivel that rotates to almost any viewing angle (270 degrees) and has a very flexible mounting system that will fit notebook displays, CRT monitors, flat panel displays, or any flat surface you might place it onto. Moreover, the webcam is accompanied by a very interesting software suite, which allows the users to do stretch its possibilities to the maximum (add live effects to the video/audio feed transmitted by the Optia AF, take still pictures and edit them, etc.).
The Live!Cam Optia AF costs around 102.799 Euro on the manufacturer's website, which is quite a lot, even for a webcam as advanced and packed full of features as this one.
