The Micro-Star International company (better known as MSI) is one of the biggest names in IT, as the firm has designed and manufactured numerous motherboards, graphic cards, notebook computers, networking products, multimedia and storage devices, as well as a pretty vast array of computer peripherals.
After the Sports webcam, MSI's StarCam Racer presented itself as a good-looking device, which resembles a lot with a motorcycle helmet. It features a true 1.3 MP sensor (1/3.5-inch colour CMOS), which can capture images at a 1280 x 1024 maximum pixel resolution. Furthermore, users can choose from different resolutions, such as: 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600, while the still image resolution is up to 4 megapixels (software enhanced, of course) and the focus distance is 3cm to infinity.
Additionally, the webcam is also accompanied by an integrated USB microphone, so you won't have to buy another one to engage in voice interaction with the loved ones. Due to its plug and play option, the StarCam Racer is compliant with UVC, USB video class so that plug and play is well supported without the need of any driver installation.
You just have to plug in the StarCam Racer in the USB port for PC or Notebooks, and then start using the cam for Instant messaging or for capturing images you like.
Among additional features, we can mention the 57-degree field of view, auto detection brightness system and exposure control. It is capable to deliver RGB24 image format, while requiring a fairly small amount of power in order to operate (2W).
The StarCam Racer is easy attachable to any PC or CRT monitor using the clam-like mounting system. Apart from that, the Racer web cam should work perfectly with Windows XP, SP2 and Vista. The IR remote distance is of maximum 2M.
Not bad at all, for a $50 price tag!
