Despite of the fact that most webcams out there are pretty standard (very little is left for users to adjust or control), there are also some interesting exceptions available out there. The PlusTek OptiCam M1 web camera is a webcam which allows users to move and control its lens. However, it's great to know it can cover about 150 degree horizontal view and a 110-degree vertical view. Notably, the cam allows a remote user to control it by request via a web interface.
Another feature that makes the device special is the micro-shooting capability. After adjusting the focus, the cam can take pictures of images as close as 15 mm. This web camera offers high-quality images, up to 30 frames per second on recommended systems in QVGA (320 x 240 pixels), as well as VGA (640 x 480 pixels) still images.
And when connected to the network, the cam works great with any popular instant messaging applications, such as MSN messenger, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger and others. The device allows users to engage in voice interaction as well, via the integrated microphone, after being simply plugged into the PC's USB socket.
It's important to know that the cam measures 99 x 90 x 103 mm and weighs about 225 grams, which means that it will actually take very little space around the users' home or office. The peripheral requires the Windows 98SE, 2000, ME or XP operating systems to be installed on the host computer in order to function properly.
The Plustek OptiCam M1 is available at various retailers for an estimate $70 to $97 US dollars, which is indeed a pretty steep price range, but worth it, given the extensive level of functionality this thing can provide.
